The Tang & Biscuit acts as a restaurant, social club, shuffleboard court, and board-game palace. You'll end up training someone after only a few weeks there. The up-and-coming Scott’s Addition District in Richmond, Virginia, houses many breweries, restaurants, apartments, and the newly-established Tang & Biscuit Social Club. Most nights, the servers are the last people to leave besides the closing managers. If it's dead, they still won't cut you because nobody wants to help clean at closing. They are way over scheduled because at any moment a party of 20 could walk in for a party, which means all of you will be just wondering around or put on deep cleaning tasks until you have tables. They will basically let you know that the servers are treated poorly and hardly make money. If you're a good server, you'll have other employees ask you why you are there. They don't even move THE BAR SEATS themselves for the weekends. Yet, the bartenders don't wait on or clean any area besides the bar which is roughly 10% of the sqft of the whole place. They also take a higher % of tips than the servers out of the tip pool. You'll watch them split it every night as you mop the floors at closing. If you're desperate for money, I would only recommend this as a job to take while searching for another job, then leaving as soon as you can.īartenders take home cash tips every night, where servers rarely do because they can't accept cash transactions. I didn't enjoy any of my year there, and dreaded having to go in for shifts. None of the employees enjoy working there, and most of them spend their time on shift getting high. They provide no training and then are quick to blame you for anything and everything, and management sits in the corner on their laptops without ever looking to help with any tasks. And on the rare day you aren't scheduled to close, they will make you do all their closing tasks before you clock out at closing time. Also, you should expect every shift to be 8 hours long, with nobody getting cut throughout the night. I requested around 25 hours per week, and was scheduled for almost 40, with all of my time-off requests denied. They will also promise flexibility in scheduling, only closing once or twice a week, thorough training, and easy time-off requests, but won't follow through on any of it. First off, they tell you that they are a friendly and diverse environment, but it's purely a bar where rich white people in Richmond come to get drunk and berate employees. Don't let your interview and orientation fool you, Tang and Biscuit does not live up to their promises.
